WinDEETS questions and answers

What is Winny, and what does it receive?

Winny is a plain-English explanation of a log entry you paste. It does not run inside the app. When you pick a search engine, WinDEETS opens it in your own browser with your question in the address, after redacting personal data. Nothing is sent until you pick one.

Do I need an account?

No. Only two things need one: sending a bug report, and switching on display settings from your Microsoft 365 workspace. Signing in copies none of your data anywhere.

Does it change anything on my PC?

WinDEETS reads and explains. It repairs nothing and changes no Windows setting. It writes its own files under %LOCALAPPDATA%\com.windeets, and a flagged-events export to your Downloads folder when you press Export for review.

Does it work offline?

Reading logs, drivers, services, startup apps, scheduled tasks and installed software happens on your PC and needs no network. The list of Winny search addresses refreshes once per launch, and WinDEETS falls back to a bundled list when it cannot reach windeets.com.

Where are my flagged events kept?

In evidence.jsonl under %LOCALAPPDATA%\com.windeets\data, on your PC. We hold none of it.

Which events can't it show?

Events Windows has already overwritten because a log filled up. Flag an event first to keep it. Protected logs, such as Security, need administrator rights: use Read as administrator, which relaunches WinDEETS through the Windows UAC prompt.
